Brent vs BIX price comparison


Analysis of Brent crude vs the BIX global bunker price in August.



The average monthly Brent crude price was up slightly during the month of August whilst the average global bunker price dipped during the same period, according to Bunker Index (BIX) and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) price data.

The Brent settlement average increased by $0.67 per barrel, or 1.4 percent, to $47.16 per barrel in August. During the same period, the BIX global bunker average was down $6.84 per tonne, or 1.6 percent, to $407.98 per tonne.

In an analysis of the last 12 months, since August 2015, the Brent monthly average has fallen $1.05 per barrel, or 2.2 percent, from $48.21 to $47.16 per barrel, whilst the BIX monthly global average has declined by a more significant $41.01 per tonne, or 9.1 percent, from $448.99 to $407.98 per tonne.
