Rotterdam Market Report

Market report from Marine Bunkering (Rotterdam) B.V.

Crude:

World fuel indices declined on product glut worry. Oil inventories in the U.S. have risen 5 percent in the past four weeks to 477 million barrels, the highest seasonal in 85 years. Supplies have risen as refineries have slowed processing to perform seasonal maintenance. U.S. plants ran at 86.4 percent of capacity last week, compared with 96.1 percent at the end of July.

As a result, oversupplied fuel storage in the U.S. and Europe may force refiners to cut runs and impact oil prices. The number of active machines targeting oil in the U.S. dropped by 1 through Oct. 23 after declining by 45 over the prior three weeks, according to Baker Hughes Inc. The rig count fell to 594, the lowest level since July 2010. Drillers have cut the number of active machines by more than 60 percent since December.
