Island Oil targets bunkers-only calls in Haifa with new supply vessel

The M/T Thalia is due to start operating by the end of October.

Island Petroleum Ltd, a subsidiary of Island Oil (Holdings) Ltd, has announced that it is extending its physical supply coverage in Haifa, Israel, with the delivery of marine fuel at anchorage, thus accommodating bunkers-only calls. Up until now, the company's bunkering operation has been focused on perfoming supplies in-port.

Island Petroleum says it will be using the 2,434-deadweight-tonne (dwt) M/T Thalia to carry out anchorage deliveries. The 2011-built, 55-metre-long barge is double hulled and equipped with heating coils, flow meters, fenders as well as a boom system with tow boat and skimmer.

"This decision was made based on an assessment of the Haifa Port marine bunker market and Island Petroleum's aim to satisfy its customer's bunkering needs within the ever-demanding shipping industry," the company said in a statement.

The M/T Thalia is due to commence operations by the end of October 2017.

Island Petroleum says it will continue to supply ISO 8217:2010-compliant RMG 380, RME 180, all intermediate grades down to 30 centistoke (cSt) and DMA-specification marine gasoil (MGO).

The maximum parcel sizes are 1,900 metric tonnes for intermediate fuel oil (IFO) grades and 300 tonnes for MGO.
