Singapore sales fall to nine-month low

Bunker sales will need to be above 4 million tonnes this month - a new record - in order to surpass last year's volume figure.

Bunker sales in Singapore fell to their lowest level in nine months in November, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port declined last month by 232,800 tonnes, or 6.6 percent, to 3,275,600 tonnes, down from 3,508,400 tonnes in October.

November's volume figure is the lowest since February, when sales plummeted by 575,800 tonnes to 3,092,700 tonnes. It is also the second-lowest amount since April 2011. Also, significantly, bunker sales between September and November were 10,110,400 tonnes - the lowest rolling 3-monthly total since February-April 2011, when 10,038,000 tonnes were sold.

In comparison with the corresponding month last year, November volumes were down 339,800 tonnes, or 9.4 percent.

Accumulated sales for the year so far are 39,069,600 tonnes, which represents a fall of 280,100 tonnes on the 39,349,700 tonnes achieved during the first eleven months of 2011.

Please find below a table that shows how accumulated sales compared to 2011 fell to their lowest level of the year so far during the month of November. It means that bunker sales in December would need to be above 4,084,200 tonnes - a new record - in order to beat last year's total figure of 43,153,800 tonnes and continue Singapore's sequence of consecutive year-on-year volume increases.
