AIDA takes holistic approach to sustainability

Cruise firm views sustainability not as a limitation but as a way to improve its services and customer experience.

Danish maritime initiative Green Ship of the Future presented on Thursday 6 September its latest studies on marine sustainability and the cruise and ferry service markets at SMM Hamburg 2012.

The findings were presented at the Danish Marine Group pavilion, where the issues of ferry design and working within ECA requirements were covered.

AIDA Cruises´ Chief Sustainable Officer, Monika Griefahn [pictured] commented on the firm's approach to the environment: "We do not think of sustainability as a limitation of the industry. Instead we take a holistic approach on sustainability and view this as a possibility to improve our services and customer experience."

Also at the event, Danish Maritime presented its retrofitting project, which is supported by the Danish Maritime Fund.

Green Ship of the Future is an open private-public partnership where the Danish maritime community joins forces in order to explore, develop and demonstrate ambitious technical solutions for cleaner, more energy-efficient and sustainable ships and maritime operations.

Members of Green Ship of the Future include leading maritime firms such as AP Moller-Maersk, Aalborg Industries and MAN Diesel. For further information please visit: www.greenship.org
