Confirmed: BIX bunker average up $10.62 in July


July increase represents the smallest price change in dollar and percentage terms since October 2011.

The average monthly Bunker Index (BIX) price rose by $10.62 per tonne, or 1.4 percent, in July compared to the previous month, according to Bunker Index price data.

The BIX global monthly average climbed to $785.57 per tonne this month, up from $774.95 per tonne in June. It is the second-lowest price since February 2011, when the global average climbed $62.34 to reach $729.08 per tonne. It is also only the second time that the BIX monthly price has remained below $800 per tonne in the last 17 months.

This month's increase of $10.62 also represents the smallest price change in dollar and percentage terms since October 2011.

In a comparison with previous years, July 2012 was $49.23 per tonne, or 5.9 percent, lower than the $834.80 average price recorded in July 2011 and $214.80 per tonne, or 37.6 percent, higher than the $570.77 per tonne figure seen in July 2010.
