Total joins World Ocean Council

French oil major becomes latest member of alliance to support global leadership and collaboration on ocean sustainability.

Oil major Total has joined the growing number of companies from a range of ocean industries to become members of the World Ocean Council (WOC) to support global leadership and collaboration on ocean sustainability.

Commenting on the news, Paul Holthus, WOC Executive Director, said: "The World Ocean Council is extremely pleased to welcome Total to our growing alliance as we continue to develop the collaborative actions needed to address the ocean stewardship challenges and opportunities facing ocean industries."

Total is a leading firm in the oil and gas sector and the first French company to become part of the multi-sectoral business alliance on corporate ocean responsibility.

"Total is committed to responsible operations in the marine environment. We believe that the diverse ocean business community must collaborate to ensure ocean health in the interconnected marine ecosystems. The World Ocean council provides a critical means for Total to work with other responsible companies on science-based solution to ocean issues," said Manoelle Lepoutre, Senior Vice President Sustainable Development and Environment.
