Shippers to increase bunker surcharge


Surcharge rise to come into effect from next month as a result of higher bunker prices.



Members of the Caribbean Shipowners Association have announced that there will be an increase in the bunker surcharge effective Sunday, December 11, 2011, as an offset to the costs associated with the rise in fuel prices.

The new rise is applicable on imports and exports and will be assessed as follows:

20' equipment $100.00
40' equipment $200.00
Over 40 foot container Equipment $225.00
Vehicles NOT over 700 cft (based on 500 cft) $59.00 each
Vehicles over 700 cft $4.70 W/M
Breakbulk / NIT $4.70 W/M
LCL - 2000 lbs W or 40 cft M $4.70 W/M
LCL - 100 lbs W $0.24
LCL - 1 cft M $0.12

The increase will affect the following southbound and northbound services between the United States and the Caribbean destinations of: Anguilla, Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saba, St Barths, St Eustatius, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Maarten, St Vincent, Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname.

Members of the Caribbean Shipowners Association include: Bernuth Lines, CMA CGM, Crowley Maritime Corporation, Seaboard Marine, Seafreight Line and Zim Integrated Shipping Services.
