Gasnor pulls out of LNG project


Gasnor A/S decides to withdraw from project to bring LNG bunkering to the port of Gothenburg.

Norway's Gasnor A/S and Swedish firm Göteborg Energi AB have agreed not to renew their cooperation agreement for the introduction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as an alternative bunker fuel in the port of Gothenburg [pictured].

Both companies had been collaborating for approximately a year and a half in the LNG GOT project, where the aim of the cooperation was to leverage the parties’ collective knowledge and experience in infrastructure and LNG.

The prerequisite for continued cooperation had been the formation of an independent company owned by Göteborg Energi and Gasnor with the Port of Gothenburg as a partner. However, it is understood that Göteborg Energi is currently unable to establish a subsidiary company and, as a result, Göteborg Energi and Gasnor have agreed not to renew their cooperation agreement.

Göteborg Energi will now take over the project assets in respect of brand, safety and environmental impact assessment in partnership with the Port of Gothenburg. Gasnor will be offered storage capacity at an LNG plant at the port when it is completed.
