Sallaum Lines has unveiled its Blue Corridor initiative, a sustainability-focused programme targeting its roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) services linking Europe and Africa.

Announced in February 2026, the scheme is anchored around the company’s new Ocean Class vessels deployed on the Europe–Africa trade. Sallaum Lines describes the concept as a dedicated corridor within the ro-ro segment that brings together advanced green technologies, enhanced operational performance and a strong emphasis on transparency in support of cleaner trade flows.

As part of the programme, the company is introducing a series of operational measures designed to lower emissions and improve efficiency. The Ocean Class fleet is equipped with LNG dual-fuel capability, and Sallaum Lines states that it has outlined a pathway for the gradual introduction of lower-carbon fuels.

Other initiatives include voluntary speed reductions when transiting emission-control zones and environmentally sensitive areas, as well as the use of AI-driven voyage optimisation systems that incorporate weather patterns and ocean currents to limit fuel consumption. The vessels are also prepared for shore power connectivity, allowing them to plug into onshore electricity supplies once port infrastructure permits.

Sallaum Lines says it is among the first operators to introduce LNG-powered ro-ro vessels on the Europe–Africa route, positioning the corridor as a benchmark for more sustainable transport in this trade lane.
