Aegean starts bunkering in Cape Verde

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. has announced that it has commenced bunkering operations in Cape Verde, an archipelago of 10 islands located off the coast of Western Africa.

The company will be providing bunkering services from the port of Mindelo on the island of Sao Vicente, and offshore, offering a full range of marine fuels meeting ISO 8217 requirements.

The port of Mindelo serves as a strategic commercial hub that lies along major cross-Atlantic shipping routes as well as important trade routes between Europe and the Far East via the Cape of Good Hope.

Aegean entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Enacol, a local energy company based in Cape Verde, in December 2010. Under the terms of the agreement, Aegean will utilize its modern delivery fleet to provide bunkering services in Mindelo and offshore, whilst Enacol will be responsible for providing storage for fuel oils and distillates.

Aegean will begin carrying out bunker deliveries using the Dilos, a 4,600 dwt double-hull bunkering tanker which was built at Fujian Southeast Shipyard in China. The company took delivery of the vessel in May 2010.

Dilos has a fuel oil capacity of 3,500 tonnes and a marine gasoil capacity of 700 tonnes.
