Copec launches new barge service

Supplier begins carrying out barge deliveries at three northern ports.

Chile's Copec Marine Fuels has announced that it has begun carrying out bunker deliveries by barge at the northern ports of Antofagasta, Mejillones and Tocopilla.

The new service, which was launched today, will enable Copec to supply both 380-centistoke (cst) and marine gas oil (MGO) by barge using the 3,284 dwt barge Don Gonzalo I. The company had been previously supplying only by road tank wagon (RTW).

The Don Gonzalo I has an intermediate fuel oil (IFO) capacity of 4,100 metric tonnes and an MGO capacity of 740 cubic metres (cbm), thus enabling Copec to make larger-sized deliveries at the three northern ports.

The vessel's IFO pumping rate is 470 tonnes per hour and its MGO pumping rate is 350 cbm per hour.

Copec will also continue to supply three grades of fuel - 380-cst, 180-cst and MGO - at Antofagasta, Mejillones and Tocopilla by truck.
