Med average up $15.36 per tonne


BIX MED rises 3 percent to end the week $14.94 per tonne higher than last Friday.



The Bunker Index Med (BIX MED) - Bunker Index's average bunker price for ports in the Mediterranean - jumped $15.36 per tonne, or 3.0 percent, to $529.12 per tonne today as bunker prices surged in the region as a consequence of yesterday's $3.04 per barrel gain in the price of WTI crude and a $24.00 per tonne increase in the price of gas oil.

Marine gas oil (MGO) prices recorded the most significant price increases with distillate levels surging on average by $20.60 per tonne, or 3.1 percent, as the Bunker Index Med MGO (BIX MED MGO) - the average price for marine gasoil (high and low sulphur) in the region - rose to $682.20 per tonne.

MGO prices were higher by $20 per tonne or more in Algericas, Augusta, Fos, Genoa, Gibraltar, La Spezia, Off Malta, Piraeus and Venice.

Meanwhile, 380-centistoke (cst) and 180-cst prices also rose by a significant margin in Mediterranean ports today with the Bunker Index Med 380 CST (BIX Med 380 CST) surging by $12.78 to $437.89 per tonne and the BIX MED 180 CST increasing by $13.33 per tonne to $462.00 per tonne.

IFO 380 and IFO 180 prices were $10-$17 per tonne higher in Algeciras, Augusta, Fos, Gibraltar, Istanbul, Limassol, Off Malta, Piraeus and Venice.

As a result of today's price gains, the BIX MED ends the week $14.94 per tonne, or 2.9 percent, higher than a week ago.
