Record bunker sales for Singapore in March

New monthly and Q1 bunker sales records at the world's leading bunker port.

Singapore set a number of bunker sales volume records last month, according to estimates released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port were 3,329,100 tonnes in March, surpassing the previous record of 3,227,200 tonnes set in May 2009 and the 3,212,500-tonne figure recorded in January 2010.

Sales volumes have now exceeded 3 million tonnes in eight of the last nine months. It is also the first time that marine fuel sales have surpassed the 3 million tonne mark in each of the first three months of the year.

Bunker sales in Singapore during the first three months of 2010 were 9,564,000 tonnes - a new first quarter record. The figure was 744,600 tonnes greater than the previous record of 8,819,400 tonnes set during the same period in 2009.

A new record was also set for 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade. Sales of 380-cst reached a new monthly high of 2,557,000 tonnes, beating the previous best of 2,527,700 tonnes in May 2009.

Meanwhile, first quarter sales of 380-cst also hit a new record peak of 7,407,800 tonnes. It is the first time that more than 7 million tonnes of 380-cst have been sold between January and March, surpassing last year's figure of 6,920,500 tonnes.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2010, 2009 and 2008 respectively with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
