VPS tops Singapore list with most licensed bunker surveyors

VPS, Lighthouse Marine and Viswalab are firms with largest number of licensed surveyors.

Veritas Petroleum Services (Asia) Pte Ltd (VPS) is the Singapore-based company with the most licensed bunker surveyors, according to the latest data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Over the last 12 months, VPS's staff of licensed bunker surveyors has risen by three people, or 16.7 percent, to 21, which means that 7.3 percent of all the licensed bunker surveyors in Singapore are now employed by VPS.

The company with the second-largest number of licensed bunker surveyors on its payroll in the city-state is currently Lighthouse Marine & Inspection Services Pte Ltd, following a year-on-year (YoY) staff increase of four, or 40 percent, to 14.

Remaining in third place, despite a three-person decline during the last 12 months, is Viswalab Singapore Pte Ltd with 13 surveyors.

Other companies with 10 or more licensed surveyors are: Libra Marine Services Pte Ltd (12), Odessea Inspection Services (S) Pte Ltd (12) and SGS Testing & Control Services Singapore Pte Ltd (12).

In total, at the time of writing, there are 287 people with bunker surveyor licences issued by the MPA, down from 293 a year ago.

The number of companies with licensed bunker surveyors has also dipped YoY, from 50 to 49.

The top eight companies in the list have a combined total of 102 licensed surveyors, or 35.5 percent, of the 287 licenses. The top 10 companies employ 120, or 41.8 percent, of Singapore's licensed surveyors.

First announced in October 2014, the licensing scheme is designed to raise the standards of bunker surveying companies and allow the MPA to have a greater regulatory oversight over bunker surveying companies and bunker surveyors.

A full breakdown of bunker surveyor licenses by company, including a YoY comparison, has been provided below.
