Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard has reported a full orderbook stretching to 2029, with nine vessels now under construction at its Daishan base in Zhejiang province, according to Zhoushan Information Office.

Among the ships being built are 19,000-teu LNG dual-fuel container vessels for MSC Group. The design allows the ships to operate on both LNG and conventional fuel and is said to cut carbon emissions by about 20% and nitrogen oxides (NOx) by 85% compared with conventional vessels.

Construction has already begun on three of the ships in the series. The first, which entered production in November 2025, is expected to be delivered in April 2027.

The company worked with the CIMC Offshore Engineering Research Institute on the development of the new dual-fuel design, including solutions for fuel tank integration and energy management.

To support the programme, a 28-person specialist team focused on improving welding processes for the high-strength steel used in large vessels. After months of testing, the yard established standardised methods.

Local authorities are also said to have also supported the expansion by assisting with labour supply, logistics, and safety coordination, helping the yard maintain stable production as capacity increases.
