Oil refinery and bunker supplier ConocoPhillips said operations were back to normal again at its 139,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) Wilmington refinery in California, following a malfunction at one of its units on Thursday, Reuters reports.

Commenting on the incident, Conoco's Bill Tanner is reported to have said that the Los Angeles refinery experienced a "minor upset" on a unit, which then resulted in a brief period of flaring. The refinery is said to be operating normally at this time.

ConocoPhillips is the third-largest integrated energy company in the United States and a supplier of marine fuels in the Californian ports of Long Beach, Los Angeles and San Francisco, sourcing products from its Wilmington plant.

The company is estimated to have a 15 to 20 percent share of the Los Angeles bunker market, which is currently at approximately 3.5 million metric tonnes per year. It also has around 20 percent of the total market share in San Francisco, which is roughly 1 million metric tonnes per annum.

ConocoPhillips also supplies marine fuel in Seattle, Portland (Oregon) and New York.
