The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) is hosting a one-hour webinar in August covering this month's 71st session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC).

The webinar, entitled 'MEPC 71 Outcomes & Industry Impact', will be presented by Thomas Kirk, ABS Director of Environmental Performance, who served in an advisory role for the US delegation at MEPC 71.

Kirk is set to examine the outcomes of the IMO meeting and the implications for ship owners and operators. Topics will include the establishment of new Emission Control Areas (ECAs), guidelines for verification of fuel oil data and other air emission-related topics.

The webinar is scheduled to be held on August 2 at 10:00-11:00 a.m. Central Standard Time (CST), or 15:00-16:00 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Following the conclusion of MEPC 71, ABS has hosted various seminars across the globe, designed to provide deeper insight on the activities and outcomes of MEPC 71.

Seminars have been held in Greece, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Germany and Cyprus. They were led by Thomas Kirk and Stamatis Fradelos, who led the IACS delegation during the working group on Air Pollution and Energy Efficiency.

According to ABS, more than 400 seminar attendees received the latest information on the outcomes of MEPC 71. The seminars also served as a platform for owners, operators and other industry stakeholders to come together and discuss how the changes made during MEPC 71 will impact their fleets and operations.
