Average global bunker price drops 15.4% in 2016


BIX, BIX 380, BIX 180 and BIX MGO all declined by more than 15%.



The average global bunker price in 2016 was $396.41 per tonne, according to Bunker Index price data.

Bunker prices declined, on average, by $72.04 in 2016 compared to the previous year, which represents a drop of 15.4 percent on the $468.45-per-tonne figure recorded in 2015.

In order to calculate the average global bunker price, Bunker Index took into account the daily port assessment prices for all the major fuel grades during the course of the year.

The 380 centistoke (cSt), 180 cSt and marine gas oil (MGO) annual averages all declined in 2016 compared to the previous year: the Bunker Index 380 (BIX 380) dropped $47.83, or 15.1 percent, to $269.59 per tonne; the BIX 180 fell $56.94, or 16.3 percent, to $292.27 per tonne; and the BIX MGO average decreased by $112.22, or 17.0 percent, to $547.68 per tonne.
