Highest end-of-week BIX since August 2015


BIX was up 2.7% on Friday compared to seven days earlier. Weekly average rose 3.9%.



End-of-week prices

The daily Bunker Index (BIX) ended week 49 at $454.42 per tonne - up $12.05, or 2.72 percent, on the $442.37-per-tonne price recorded on 2nd December, according to Bunker Index price data. It is the highest end-of-week - and daily - price in almost 16 months - since 14th August 2015. The week-on-week increase is the most significant since 7th October.

During the same period, the daily Brent front-month settlement price dipped marginally by $0.13 per barrel, or 0.24 percent, to $54.33 per barrel. Despite the decrease, it is the second-highest end-of-week price of 2016.

Weekly averages

The global BIX weekly average rose for the third consecutive week to its highest level since 14th August 2015 during the trading week ending 9th December.

In week 49, the bunker average increased by $16.76, or 3.86 percent, to $451.34 per tonne, up from $434.58 per tonne seven days earlier.

During the same period, the Brent crude front-month settlement weekly average was up $3.32 per barrel, or 6.55 percent, to $54.02 per barrel. It is the biggest week-on-week rise since 7th October.

The Bunker Index (BIX) is the daily global average price in US dollars per tonne for all the 700-plus assessment prices published on the bunkerindex.com site, covering over 300 ports and the major fuel grades.
