Global bunker average jumps to highest level in 14 months


Bunker Index (BIX) average rose by 6.2 percent in October.



The global Bunker Index (BIX) monthly average rose to its highest level in 14 months in October, according to Bunker Index price data.

October's monthly average increased by $25.68, or 6.2 percent, to $438.79 per tonne, up from the previous month's figure of $413.11 per tonne.

The $438.79 price is the highest since August 2015. The increase is the most significant in five months, since May.

The BIX is the daily global average price for all the 700-plus assessment prices published on the site, covering over 300 ports and the major fuel grades: IFO 380, IFO 180, MDO, and MGO. Every month, a dollar average for all the month's assessment prices is calculated.
