US firms to launch marine fuel systems

New product line designed to meet upcoming CARB and EPA regulations.

Michigan-based Attwoood Marine has partnered with Stant Corporation to develop and market a new line of marine fuel systems aimed to meet all upcoming California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.

Attwood, a leading parts and accessories provider for the marine industry will combine its knowledge and experience with Stant Corporation, one of the country's leading developers and manufacturers of automotive fuel systems, caps and thermostats.

Commenting on the partnership, Stant said in a statement "Attwood and Stant have established a long-term design, manufacturing and distribution partnership which will enable Attwood to lead the development of the next generation of marine fuel systems capable of meeting all upcoming CARB and EPA regulations in the most economical and safest way possible."

Attwood will serve as Stant’s exclusive partner in the marine industry and will take the lead in adapting technology for use in the marine industry.

“Stant is looking forward to utilizing our extensive experience in automotive fuel system technology to help Attwood maintain and expand its leadership position in the marine industry,” said Brian Childers, Vice President of Aftermarket and Industrial Business Development at Stant Corporation.

Chris Drees, President of Attwood Marine said “Attwood is proud to help our industry through a challenging transition to CARB and EPA compliant fuel systems. While marine fuel systems have remained relatively simple and unchanged for many years, new regulations will require a significant increase in their complexity to function effectively.

"We cannot approach this one component at a time but rather the fuel system in its entirety must be considered and optimized. Additionally, as part of this program, Attwood is taking concrete steps to solve the persistent problem of fuel spill and spitback in the marine industry.” Atwood will demonstrate the first steps of this program at the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference IBEX (October 6-8, 2008) where the marine carbon canister system intended to meet the CARB requirements in California beginning in January, 2009 will be introduced.

The marine carbon canister system will be available for sale on November 15th, 2008. Pricing and additional details are due to be released at IBEX.
