CARB to consider Emission Reduction Plan

California Air Resources Board to examine implementation of plan this week.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) will conduct a public meeting this week to consider a staff update on the implementation of the Emission Reduction Plan for Ports and Goods Movement in California.

The meeting, which is scheduled to take place on April 24 at 9.00am, is the third update of the Plan originally approved by the Board on April 20, 2006. The Plan was designed to identify and initiate specific actions to reduce the emissions and health risk associated with pollution from ships, trucks, locomotives, harbour craft and cargo equipment that operate at ports in California and move goods throughout the state. The Plan also includes an analysis of the health impacts from goods movement and identifies strategies to reduce emissions in each sector to protect public health.

This week's presentation will describe progress made by CARB in developing and implementing the strategies to meet the Boards's health goals for goods movement, as well as international, national and local initiatives to cut emissions. Staff will also report on the funding sources available for incentives to accelerate progress.

The public meeting will take place at the following address:
