Rotterdam 380 cSt average up for second consecutive month


Europe's biggest bunker port records highest 380 cSt average in four months.



The 380 centistoke (cSt) average at Europe's leading bunker port rose to its highest level in four months in March, according to Bunker Index price data.

The Rotterdam 380 cSt average rose by $16, or 11.2 percent, to $159 per tonne, up from $143 per tonne in February.

The $19 increase is the second-biggest since May 2015. It is also the first time since May 2015 that the 380 cSt has risen in two consecutive months.

During the month of March, Rotterdam's best-selling fuel grade recorded a $35 low-to-high price differential with a range of $140 to $175 per tonne. The low of $140 was recorded on March 3 and 4, whilst the month's high was seen on March 11.

In comparison with the corresponding month in 2015, the March 2016 average is $138 lower. It is $418 below the $577-per-tonne price seen in March 2014.

The month ended with an assessment price of $157.50 per tonne, up $13.50, or 9.4 percent, on the $144.00 per tonne recorded on the last trading day of February.
