Most significant Rotterdam 380 cSt rise since all-time crude peak in July 2008

Rotterdam 380 cSt average rose from its lowest level since March 2009 to record its first increase in eight months.

The 380 centistoke (cSt) average at Europe's leading bunker port rose from its lowest level since March 2009 to record its first increase in eight months in February, according to Bunker Index price data.

The Rotterdam 380 cSt average jumped $62, or 25.4 percent, to $306 per tonne last month, up from $244 per tonne in January.

The $62 price increase is the most significant in over six and a half years - since July 2008, when the monthly average skyrocketed $83 to $679 per tonne. This was also the month when Brent crude reached an all-time peak of $147.50 on July 11 and WTI crude hit an all-time record of $147.27 on the same day.

The $77 daily low-to-high price range of $258 to $335 per tonne recorded in February means that the intra-month volatility indicator has remained above $75 in four out of the last five months, with only January falling below this level since September.

In comparison with the corresponding month in 2014, the February 2015 average is $273 lower. It is $325 below the $631 per tonne price recorded in February 2013.

Please find a table below outlining average monthly Rotterdam 380 cSt prices between April 2008 and February 2015.
