Bunker sales in Singapore rose to their highest level in six months in July, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port increased last month by 262,600 tonnes, or 7.5 percent, to 3,740,800 tonnes, up from the 3,478,200 tonnes recorded in June.

In comparison with the corresponding month last year, July volumes were up 85,600 tonnes, or 2.3 percent. It is the first time since January that year-on-year monthly volumes have risen.

Accumulated sales for the year so far are 24,627,500 tonnes, which represents a decline of 765,700 tonnes, or 3.0 percent, on the 25,393,200 tonnes achieved during the first seven months of 2012.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - increased by 184,300 tonnes, or 7.1 percent, in July to 2,773,000 tonnes. In comparison with the corresponding month last year, sales were down 151,400 tonnes, or 5.2 percent.

Meanwhile, 500-cst volumes rose by 73,000 tonnes, or 11.4 percent, to 714,600 tonnes compared to June. The result was a new record for 500-cst sales in Singapore and 211,100 tonnes, or 41.9 percent, higher than the 503,500 tonnes sold in July 2012.
