Bunker barge to 'welcome' world's largest container ship

Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller is scheduled to arrive in North Europe next week.

Dutch transportation firm VT Group has said that its bunker barge will 'welcome' the upcoming visit of the Triple-E Vessel Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller [pictured], which is due to arrive in Rotterdam for the first time next week.

In a tweet published on August 8, the company said: "VT #bunker barge will welcome Triple-E @Maersk McKinneyMoller call @PortOfRotterdam @HavenRotterdam."

The world's largest container vessel commenced its maiden voyage on July 15 in Busan, South Korea. It is scheduled to pass through the Suez Canal on August 9, and call at Rotterdam on August 16. A list of the upcoming port visits have been included below.

Rotterdam, Netherlands (16 August)
Bremerhaven, Germany (18 August)
Gdansk, Poland (21 August)
Aarhus, Denmark (26 August)
Gothenburg, Sweden (27 August)

VT Group specializes in the transportation and bunkering of fuels and lubricants. It is also involved in the shipment of clean and black mineral products, biofuels and chemicals.

Bunker sales volumes at the port of Rotterdam fell by 1.3 million tonnes, or 8.2 percent, from 12.2 million tonnes to 10.9 million tonnes in 2012. Intermediate fuel oil accounted for 10.3 million tonnes of total sales compared to 11.6 million tonnes in 2011. Marine Gas Oil (MGO) sales increased slightly from 530,000 to 550,000 tonnes.

Approximately 23,000 bunker deliveries were carried out at the port last year, of which almost half were to container vessels. Almost 75 percent of the total amount of fuel sold in 2012 was to container ships.
