BIX global bunker average falls $6 in December


Global monthly average declines to its third-lowest level of 2012.



The average monthly Bunker Index (BIX) price fell by $6.05 per tonne, or 0.7 percent, in December compared to the previous month, according to Bunker Index price data.

The BIX global monthly average decreased to $804.04 per tonne last month, down from $810.09 per tonne in November. It is the third successive monthly decline and the lowest price since July. It is also the third-lowest average of 2012. The $6.05 fall in price is also the narrowest since October 2011.

In a comparison with previous years, December 2012 was $14.14 per tonne lower than the $818.18 average price recorded in December 2011 and $166.97 per tonne higher than the $637.07 per tonne figure seen in December 2010.
