Bunker sales in Singapore rose to their second-highest ever level during the month of May, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port rose by 373,400 tonnes, or 11.5 percent, to 3,621,900 tonnes last month, up from 3,248,500 tonnes in April. The figure was also 151,500 tonnes, or 4.4 percent, higher than the 3,470,400 tonnes achieved during the corresponding month last year.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - reached a new record of 2,873,700 tonnes, surpassing the previous best of 2,841,200 tonnes achieved in January 2011. The result was 332,200 tonnes, or 13.0 percent, above the 2,541,500 tonnes recorded in April 2011 and 239,700 tonnes, or 9.1 percent, higher than the 2,634,000 tonnes sold in May 2010.

500-cst volumes last month rose by 50,300 tonnes, or 11.8 percent, to 475,700 tonnes. It is the second-highest result of the year for Singapore's second best-selling fuel grade.
