Ferry line to install 'fuel-saving' technology

Leading cruise ferry line aims to reduce fuel consumption with decision support system.

Eniram Oy, a provider of advanced decision support systems to the marine industry, has today announced that Norwegian shipping firm Color Line AS will be deploying the first installation of the Dynamic Trimming Assistant (DTA) on their vessel, Color Line M/S SuperSpeed 2, in March, as part of the company's strategy to reduce fuel consumption.

The SuperSpeed 2 has the capacity to carry over 1 900 passengers, 764 cars or 117 trucks. The vessel sails twice a day between Larvik, Norway and Hirtshal, Denmark.

“I am delighted that Color Line joins our growing list of world class shipping companies implementing DTA as part of their continuous improvement initiatives to reduce fuel consumption and minimize emissions” said Philip Padfield, CEO of Eniram Group.

“We are excited to implement and operate Eniram’s DTA on our vessel this spring. As this is a ro-pax vessel trading with high speed on exact route and timetable in 2011 as for the previous year, we will be able to compare fuel consumption improvements as a result of this installation relatively easily. We believe in Eniram DTA’s display of actual and potential fuel saving as a result of longitudinal trim in real time directly to the navigators as an efficient way to minimize fuel and power needs for the voyage. If successful this will also be an important part of our strategy to minimize emissions to air, and could later be implemented on more of our vessels” commented Jan-Erik Pile, Project Director, Color Line AS.

Color Line AS is one of Europe's leading cruise and transport shipping companies, The company deploys a total of six ships on four routes linking seven ports in four countries; Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.

Eniram provides dynamic decision support systems to the owners and operators of large commercial vessels, including cruise ships, freight vessels and tankers. The company's core solutions aim to enable fuel efficiency, environmental protection initiatives and intelligent reporting of vessel and fleet performance, in order to deliver cost efficiencies onboard and onshore.

Finland-based Eniram’s products are designed by a team of marine system experts, software architects, programmers, naval architects and captains. The company has subsidiaries in Fort Lauderdale, US, and London, UK.
