Near-record sales for Singapore in September

Asian port on course to sell over 40 million tonnes in 2010 as 380-cst volumes hit new record in September.

Bunker sales in Singapore reached near-record levels during the month of September, according to preliminary estimates released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port were 3,553,700 tonnes in September, the second-highest in the port's history. The figure was 178,700 tonnes, or 5.3 percent, higher than the previous month and just 10,100 tonnes below the all-time record of 3,563,800 tonnes set in July 2010.

It means that Singapore remains on course to achieve annual sales of over 40 million tonnes for the first time, needing an average of 3,162,233 tonnes per month for the remaining three months of the year to achieve the landmark sales figure.

Sales of 380-centistoke - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - are also on course to exceed 30 million tonnes this year for the first time after rising to a new record of 2,792,000 tonnes in September. The figure was 246,300 tonnes higher than in August and 309,200 tonnes more than during the corresponding month last year.

Sales volumes of 500-cst slid by 58,300 tonnes in September to 432,900 tonnes. However, the figure was still 96,800 tonnes above the 336,100 tonnes achieved a year earlier.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2010, 2009 and 2008 respectively with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
