CEPSA barge launched in Algeciras Bay


Newly-built double hull barge to supply marine fuel in the Strait of Gibraltar.



CEPSA Marine Fuels, S.A. (CMF) has announced that it has launched a new barge in Algeciras Bay which will serve customers in the Strait of Gibraltar.

The double hull Monte Anaga is a newbuild which is said to have been specially designed to supply marine products due to the vessel's pumping rates, manoeuvrability, automatic blenders, radar soundings and meters.

The Monte Anaga segregates up to 4 different products, two for heavy products and two for lighter fuels, thus providing additional versatility for everyday operations.

The vessel is 4.335 dwt with a pumping rate of 4x250 cubic metres per hour (cbm/hour) for heavy fuels and 2x100 cbm/hour for light products. Its capacity is 3,300 metric tonnes (mt) for heavy products and 550 mt for lighter ones.

The ship is able to reach a speed of 11,5 knots, and is said to comply with international regulations in terms of safety and environmental contamination.

Commenting on the launch CMF said it was constantly working to achieve customer satisfaction by combining service and quality, adding that the Monte Anaga was an 'excellent example' of the company's strategy of delivering a premium service to its customers.

The launch of the Monte Anaga follows the addition of the Spabunker Cuarenta in January 2010, which is also serving the ports of Algeciras and Gibraltar.

The 4,200-tonne dwt barge has the capacity to store up to 3,600 tonnes of fuel oil and 500 tonnes of distillates. It is able to segregate up to five different products, three for fuel, one for marine gasoil (MGO) and one for marine diesel oil (MDO).

The vessel's pumping rate is 3x600 m3/hour for fuel oil and 2x200 for MGO and MDO.
