CMA CGM has officially named its latest LNG-powered container ship, CMA CGM Pantheon, in a ceremony marking the vessel’s entry into commercial service under the French flag.
The 24,000-teu vessel is a sister ship to CMA CGM Notre Dame and is set to operate on the French Asia Line 1 (FAL1) service, one of the key routes connecting Asia with Northern Europe.
During the naming ceremony, CMA CGM Pantheon was welcomed by its master, Captain Benoit Le Dreau. Following maritime tradition, the vessel was also assigned a godmother: Ms Xiao Wang, Director of Programming & Screening at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
The France-headquartered shipping group said the vessel "embodies our commitment to supporting global trade while accelerating the energy transition in shipping".
CMA CGM Pantheon is the second in a series of ten container ships named after French monuments, with deliveries scheduled between 2026 and 2028.
As previously reported, sister ship CMA CGM Notre Dame was christened in Le Havre on 2 July as the largest LNG-powered container vessel in the world. With a capacity of 24,212 TEU, a length of approximately 400 metres and a beam of 61 metres, it is a dual-fuel boxship that features an 18,600-cbm LNG tank.
