The K Line ship that recently spilled fuel oil into the open sea off the coast of Sweden has arrived at the port of Oskarshamn, ship-tracking data for August 2 shows.

K Line confirmed on Wednesday that its 17,735-grt vehicle carrier Makassar Highway leaked fuel oil during refloating on July 29.

The 2001-built ship, which is operated by K Line's subsidiary, K Line European Sea Highway Services GmbH (KESS), ran aground near Valdemarsvik in south-east Sweden on July 23 whilst it was on its way to Sodertalije from Cuxhaven, Germany.

However, during refloating, fuel oil is said to have seeped out of the stricken vessel, with up to 14,000 litres spilling into the sea, according to estimates by the Swedish coast guard.

"The leaked oil is being recovered and we are working closely with the authorities to minimize any affect of the pollution," K Line said on August 1.

The Panama-registered Makassar Highway was towed away on Wednesday, and, according to ship-tracking data, it is currently moored at the Swedish port of Oskarshamn, having arrived on Thursday morning.
