Terntank takes delivery of fourth LNG-fuelled vessel


The Tern Ocean is the fourth of a quartet of 15,000-dwt tankers built for Terntank Rederi.



Terntank Rederi A/S has taken delivery of its fourth LNG-fuelled product tanker, the Tern Ocean.

The Tern Ocean is the last of a quartet of 15,000-deadweight-tonne (dwt) product tankers ordered by the firm. All four LNG-powered vessels are equipped with a Wartsila 5RT-flex 50 DF dual-fuel, 5,850-kilowatt (kW) main engine.

The Tern Ocean, which was designed by Rolls-Royce and built at the AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding Co. shipyard in Jiangsu, China, is to due to transport a cargo from East Asia to Europe before commencing a time charter thereafter.

The first of the four LNG-powered tankers, the Ternsund, was delivered in June. It is currently operating under a time charter with Finnish company North European Oil Trade (NEOT), transporting petroleum products from the company's St1 refinery in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The second of the four sister tankers, the Ternfjord, was delivered in September. It is under a time charter agreement with ExxonMobil and is being used to transport oil products from the oil major's refinery plant in Slagentangen, Norway.

The Tern Sea, delivered in November, was the third LNG-fuelled vessel ordered by Terntank Rederi.

In October, Bunker Index reported that the Ternsund had been bunkered with LNG fuel by Skangas for the first time at the LNG terminal in Pori, Finland.

The Ternsund was also the first seagoing vessel to be bunkered with LNG at the port of Rotterdam in August.
