Unioil renews bunker supply agreements

Bunker firm renews agreements to supply cliens in the Barents, Kara and Norwegian Seas, and Svalbard.

Bunker firm Unioil Supply A/S has this week confirmed the renewal of its agreements to supply marine fuel to customers in the fishing and offshore industries operating in the Barents, Kara and Norwegian Seas, and Svalbard.

The company, which is a subsidiary of Bunker Holding, established itself as a supplier in the aforementioned supply locations earlier this year. Managing director Carsten Klausen says the service has been positively received by its clients.

"We have now been operating in the area for eight months to the great satisfaction of both ourselves and our customers, and thus we have naturally chosen to enter into agreements that ensure our operation in the area for the next 12 months," Klausen remarked.

Explaining how the company believes its supply service has benefitted shipping firms, Unioil said: "Before Unioil Supply established itself here, the area was known for its offerings of bunkers not being particularly stable as well as the prices being rather volatile and unreasonably high due to the lack of competition, which was not to the benefit of the customers in the area."

With the supply agreements renewed for 2017, Unioil is keen to emphasize that it is a supply source that shipping companies will be able to rely on for bunkers.

"With our entry into the agreements for the next year, we hope that we are making it clear to both our current and potential customers that we are a permanent and stable bunker supplier in their area," commented Lars Elsberg, Unioil's Sales Manager.

"We are quite serious when it comes to this setup, and they can count on us both in terms of the quality as well as with respect to getting a fair price," he added.

LNG supply

In September 2015, Unioil Supply carried out its first LNG bunker delivery in Denmark, at the Port of Esbjerg. Three trucks were loaded with around 120 cubic metres of LNG product from Rotterdam and delivered by Unioil Supply to an LNG-diesel dual-fuel platform supply vessel at the Danish port.

Earlier this year, in February, Bunker Index reported that Unioil is to handle the commercial aspects of a Danish LNG fuel production project involving Bunker Holding Group, Kosan Crisplant and the Port of Frederikshavn.

The aim of the project is to convert biogas to liquid fuels at a new facility in Frederikshavn, which would then be used as a transportation fuel in the Baltic and North Sea region. Biogas specialist Nature Energy joined the project earlier this month.
