BIX MGO up to 6-week high


Third increase in a row for both the end-of-week and weekly average global MGO price.



The end-of-week daily global average for marine gas oil (MGO), the Bunker Index MGO (BIX MGO), rose for the third consecutive week in week 49, according to Bunker Index price data.

The BIX MGO ended the week at $580.67 per tonne - up $10.50, or 1.84 percent, on the $570.17-per-tonne price recorded on 2nd December. It is the highest end-of-week price in six weeks.

During the same seven-day period, the daily ICE Gasoil front-month settlement price dipped $2.00 per tonne, or 0.42 percent, to $473.00 per tonne. It is the first drop in four weeks.

Weekly averages

The global weekly MGO average rose $16.68, or 2.97 percent, to $577.55 per tonne in week 49, up from $560.87 per tonne seven days earlier. It is the highest average since the week ending 28th October 2016.

During the same period, the ICE Gasoil front-month settlement weekly average increased by $18.70, or 4.13 percent, to $471.20 per tonne. It is the highest weekly average in 14 months - since 9th October 2015.

The BIX MGO is the daily global average price for all MGO assessment prices published on the Bunker Index website.
