BIX MGO up 1.9% in week 48, ICE Gasoil surged almost 10%


BIX MGO weekly average rose 0.2%, whilst end-of-week price was 1.9% higher.



The end-of-week daily global average for marine gas oil (MGO), the Bunker Index MGO (BIX MGO), rose for the second consecutive week in week 48, according to Bunker Index price data.

The BIX MGO ended the week at $570.17 per tonne - up $10.40, or 1.86 percent, on the $559.77-per-tonne price recorded on 25th November. It is the highest end-of-week price in four weeks. Friday's week-on-week increase is only the second since 21st October.

During the same 7-day period, the daily ICE Gasoil front-month settlement price skyrocketed $42.50 per tonne, or 9.83 percent, to $475.00 per tonne in week 48. It is the highest end-of-week price in over a year - since 9th October 2015. It is also the highest daily price since 12th October 2015.

Weekly averages

The global weekly MGO average rose by $1.29, or 0.23 percent, to $560.87 per tonne in week 48, up from $559.58 per tonne seven days earlier. It is the highest weekly average in three weeks.

During the same period, the ICE Gasoil front-month settlement weekly average was up $9.55 per tonne, or 2.16 percent, to $452.50 per tonne. It is the highest weekly average in five weeks - since 28th October.

The BIX MGO is the daily global average price for all MGO assessment prices published on the Bunker Index website.
