Bunker Index (BIX) up 2.6% in week 48, Brent jumped 15.3%


Daily Brent ended the week $7.22 per barrel higher on Friday compared to seven days earlier.



End-of-week prices

The daily Bunker Index (BIX) ended week 48 at $442.37 per tonne - up $11.38, or 2.64 percent, on the $430.99-per-tonne price recorded on 25th November. It is the highest end-of-week price in five weeks, whilst the week-on-week increase is the most significant since 7th October.

During the same period, the daily Brent front-month settlement price skyrocketed $7.22 per barrel, or 15.28 percent, to $54.46 per barrel. It is the biggest weekly increase of the year; it is also the highest daily settlement price of year, and therefore the highest end-of-week price of 2016.

Weekly averages

The global BIX weekly average rose to its highest level in four weeks during the trading week ending 2nd December, according to Bunker Index price data.

In week 48, the bunker average increased by $5.38, or 1.25 percent, to $434.58 per tonne, up from $429.20 per tonne seven days earlier. It is the second weekly increase in a row.

During the same period, the Brent crude front-month settlement weekly average was up $2.06 per barrel, or 4.23 percent, to $50.70 per barrel. It is the second-biggest week-on-week rise since 7th October.

The Bunker Index (BIX) is the daily global average price for all the 700-plus assessment prices published on the site, covering over 300 ports and the major fuel grades.
