Rotterdam Market Report

Market report from Marine Bunkering (Rotterdam) B.V.

Crude:

World fuel indices rose the most in eight weeks on the expectations of higher crude demand.

Brent for December settlement rose $2.24, or 4.9 percent, to $49.05 a barrel on the London-based ICE Futures Europe exchange. WTI for December delivery increased $2.74, or 6.2 percent, to $45.94 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Futures are headed for the biggest gain since Aug. 31. The European benchmark crude traded at a $3.11 premium to WTI.

U.S. crude stockpiles rose 3.4 million barrels to 480 million barrels last week, the most since May. The build was less than the 4.1 million-barrel build posted yesterday by industry group the American Petroleum Institute. Inventories at Cushing, Oklahoma, the delivery point for WTI traded in New York, declined 785,000 barrels.

U.S. crude output rose 16,000 barrels a day to 9.1 million last week. Production is down from a four-decade high of 9.61 million reached in June. Refineries cut operating rates to 86 percent of capacity - in the week ended Oct. 9, the least since January.

Indices also rose on speculation that the Federal Reserve will refrain from raising interest rates, pushing expectations for an increase into next year.
