Supplier 'feeling proud' of new bunker tanks

Bunker firm reveals photo of completed storage project.

UK-based supplier Geos Group has expressed its delight following the completion of its fuel storage project in Blyth.

In a tweet on Friday, October 3, the company said: "Feeling proud of our gleaming new freshly painted #marine #fuel tanks in #Blyth. Storage capacity 15 million litres."

A photo [pictured] of the new tanks also accompanied the tweet.

The storage tanks have been built at the Bates Terminal in Blyth. The 9.5-hectare terminal handles dry bulk cargoes such as coal, glass and stone.

Project development

Geos announced the completion of the base construction phase in January. For each base, 270 cubic metres of concrete was poured into a large circular steel frame built on a foundation of steel piles buried 10 metres deep in the ground. Building contractors Halls Construction then began working on the bund wall, access roads and other elements of the on-site infrastructure.

In February, the scaffolding went up and Isleburn Ltd. - a UK manufacturer of equipment for the energy industry - began building the tanks, which will have the capacity to store up to 15 million litres.

Last month, Geos confirmed that the pump station and bund walls were being finished off and the office was almost ready for staff to move in. "The tanks themselves are being freshly painted in gleaming white - a team of painters are applying primer, undercoat and a layer of topcoat, using hand-rollers to ensure good coverage and a splash-free finish," the company said.

The Geos development project represents the first at the Blyth Estuary Enterprise Zone. It has been supported by Arch Corporate Holdings Ltd. - the Northumberland Development Company wholly owned by Northumberland County Council to promote the creation of jobs in the local area.

"The Port of Blyth is a growing offshore energy hub with excellent deep water facilities in a strategically well-positioned location," Geos said earlier this year.

Geos Group offers ship-to-ship transfers of MGO to ships in UK east coast ports.
