Fuel oil imports surge in South China


Increase is attributed mainly to the arrival of over 200,000 tonnes of 380 centistoke product from Singapore.



Imports of fuel oil into China rose by 150,000 tonnes, or 93.8 percent, to 310,000 tonnes in November compared to the previous month, according to ICIS shipping fixture data.

In a comparison with the corresponding month last year, the figure was 217,000 tonnes, or 233 percent, higher than the 93,000 tonnes recorded in November 2012.

The significant increase in month-on-month and year-on-year imports was said to be mainly beacause Sinopec (Hong Kong) transported a combined 210,000 tonnes of 380 centistoke (cst) fuel oil from Singapore to the Yangpu bonded oil terminal in Hainan province after the terminal started commercial operations in November.

Additionally, around 100,000 tonnnes of imported fuel oil arrived in Shenzhen during the same period, according to the data.
