Western Baltic Engineering has released a concept design for a green methanol bunkering vessel tailored to the operational requirements of the Port of Klaipėda in Lithuania, marking the company's first concept dedicated exclusively to green methanol bunkering.

According to the company, the vessel has been designed for flexible operations in shallow waters and local bunkering routes. It features an 800-tonne green methanol capacity and, the company claims, the potential to supply up to 250,000 metric tonnes of green methanol annually.

Western Baltic Engineering describes the concept as an extension of its portfolio of alternative-fuel vessel solutions, building on prior experience in methanol-ready vessel design.

Marius Arkusauskas, Director at Western Baltic Engineering, stated: "As the maritime sector evolves, engineering companies have a responsibility not only to respond to market needs but also to anticipate future challenges. By exploring emerging technologies and alternative fuel applications, we help our partners prepare for the next generation of maritime operations while contributing to a more sustainable future."

The vessel design also builds on Western Baltic Engineering's existing relationship with the Port of Klaipėda. It served as design partner to Baltic Workboats in the delivery of the 42-metre hydrogen and electric-powered waste collection vessel RASA for the port, a project also involving Western Baltija Shipbuilding.
