BIX global average up almost $3 in September


Monthly global bunker average rises to its highest level since March.



The average global monthly Bunker Index (BIX) price rose for the third consecutive month in September, according to Bunker Index price data.

The BIX global monthly average increased by $2.96, or 0.4 percent, to $799.25 per tonne last month, up from $796.29 per tonne in August.

It is the highest monthly average since March, the fifth monthly increase of the year so far and only the third month since September 2011 to record a single-digit dollar gain.

In a comparison with previous years, September 2013 was $53.83 per tonne lower than the $853.08 average price recorded in September 2012 and $20.65 per tonne lower than the $819.90 per tonne figure seen in September 2011.
