Bunker sales in Singapore rose to their second-highest level of the year so far during the month of April, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port increased last month by 285,200 tonnes, or 8.5 percent, to 3,647,900 tonnes, up from the 3,362,700 tonnes recorded in March.

In comparison with the corresponding month last year, April volumes were down 87,500 tonnes, or 2.3 percent.

Accumulated sales for the year so far are 13,874,600 tonnes, which represents a fall of 230,800 tonnes, or 1.6 percent, on the 14,105,400 tonnes achieved during the first four months of 2012.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - rose by 201,000 tonnes, or 8.0 percent, in April to 2,713,700 tonnes. In comparison with the corresponding month last year, sales were down 268,900 tonnes, or 9.0 percent.

Meanwhile, 500-cst volumes climbed 52,400 tonnes, or 9.0 percent, to 633,200 tonnes. The result was also 117,900 tonnes, or 22.9 percent, higher than the 515,300 tonnes sold in April 2012.
