OW Bunker appoints former Maersk Oil executive

Former Maersk fuel trading head is named vice president of OW Bunker’s physical division.

OW Bunker has announced the appointment of Jan Christensen as vice president of OW Bunker’s physical division.

Christensen joins OW Bunker from Maersk Oil Trading, where he was head of its fuel trading operation.

"The appointment highlights OW Bunker’s excellent record of performance over the past few years and its ambitious plans for continued growth, development and global expansion," OW Bunker said.

Executive Vice President Jane Dahl Christensen commented: "It is a real coup to attract and recruit someone of Jan’s profile, experience and capabilities.

"It is testament to the stability of our business, the ambition that we have for delivering continued growth on a global basis, as well as our commitment to sustaining a leadership position within the marine fuels market. Jan’s track record and professionalism speaks for itself, and his experience and knowledge of the oil and derivatives markets will further strengthen our offering and the value that we provide to our customers world wide," continued Dahl.

Commenting on his appointment, Christensen said: "I am delighted to be joining OW Bunker at such an exciting time for the business. The shipping industry is going through a period of significant transition, and it is vital that fuel suppliers who have real market insight, intelligence and understanding use their knowledge and experience to work with customers to guide them through these challenging times. It involves a new relationship dynamic that is based on trust and partnership between ship owners, operators and their fuel suppliers.

"OW Bunker understands this, and has the global infrastructure, financial strength, quality products and intellectual capabilities to deliver the level of service that is required to help customers overcome the issues that they face," he said.

Christensen previously worked for Wrist Bunker Supply, an OW Bunker subsidiary in 2004/05 and therefore already has knowledge of the group’s operations. He will report directly to Jane Dahl Christensen.
