The Bunker Index Med (BIX MED) - Bunker Index's average bunker price for ports in the Mediterranean - jumped $11.38 per tonne, or 1.7 percent, to $693.66 per tonne today as bunker prices surged in the region.

The Bunker Index Med 380 CST (BIX MED 380 CST) - the average price for 380-centistoke in the region - increased by $9.12 to $566.00 per tonne and the BIX MED 180 CST - the average 180-cst price in the Mediterranean - rose by $11.00 to $594.43 per tonne.

IFO 380 prices in the region were $8-$13 per tonne higher in Augusta, Genoa, Gibraltar, Istanbul, Lisbon, Off Malta and Piraeus.

IFO 180 prices were $9-$14 per tonne higher in Algecias, Augusta, Genoa, Gibraltar, Istanbul, Lisbon, Off Malta and Piraeus.

The highest price gains were recorded for distillate fuel grades as the Bunker Index Med MGO (BIX MED MGO) - the average price for marine gas oil (high and low sulphur) in the region - rose by $13.50, or 1.5 percent, to $898.20 per tonne today.

Marine gas oil (MGO) prices were $13-$20 per tonne higher in Algeciras, Augusta, Fos, Genoa, Gibraltar, Istanbul, Limassol and Piraeus.

The price of MGO in the Mediterranean has increased over the last six trading days by $58.70 per tonne, or 7.0 percent, from $839.50 per tonne on January 26th.

Over the same period the BIX MED has also recorded six consecutive price rises, increasing by $47.53 per tonne, or 7.4 percent, from $646.13 to $693.66 per tonne.
