Oil terminal launched in Zhanjiang

Zhanjiang raises capacity with the launch of its second VLCC-size oil terminal.

China's Zhanjiang port has this week commenced operations at its newly-built oil terminal, which is able to accommodate vessels up to very large crude carrier (VLCC) size.

The new facility was inaugurated on the same day as the port's new coal terminal, which is one of the largest in the region and able to receive 150,000dwt vessels.

Zhanjiang now boasts two VLCC-size oil terminals, one 250,000dwt iron ore terminal, a 150,000dwt coal terminal and a bulk grain terminal, with an annual capacity of some 16.8 million tonnes.

According to Zheng Riqiang, deputy mayor of Zhanjiang and chairman of Zhanjiang port group, the objective is to establish Zhanjiang as the largest iron ore and oil distribution hub on the South China coast.
