GS Caltex restarts operations in Busan

Bunker operations restarted after having been suspended prior to Dianmu reaching landfall.

South Korean supplier GS Caltex Corp. has informed Bunker Index that operations have resumed at the port of Busan after bunker deliveries had been suspended earlier this week due to Typhoon Dianmu.

GS Caltex, which is estimated to have a 30 percent share of the South Korean bunker market, halted operations on Tuesday morning in both Busan and Yeosu prior to Dianmu reaching landfall early on Wednesday.

Torrential rain brought by the approach of the typhoon left five people dead in the country as some 130 homes were flooded, 74 flights were cancelled and 91 ferry trips suspended.

The refiner resumed operations at its Yeosu terminal yesterday but operations at Busan have remained suspended until today.

As a consequence of deliveries being halted, the supplier expects some congestion over the next few days and is currently advising that the earliest delivery date for new enquiries in Busan is August 14-15.
