Petrobras announces new BDN procedure

Brazilian supplier says it will state the 'actual sulphur content' of products in its Bunker Delivery Notes.

Leading Brazilian bunker supplier Petroleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) S.A. has announced that as from May 23rd 2010, the company will 'state the actual sulphur content of products' in its Bunker Delivery Note (BDN).

Petrobras said that the new procedure was due to the fact that Brazil has ratified Annex VI of Marpol 73/78.

The announcement comes ten months after another documentation change when Petrobras began providing MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) documentation for deliveries of all grades of fuels and marine gas oil, which commenced on July 1st 2009.

The company's MSDS policy is in line with the new guidelines adopted by the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Maritime Safety Committee.

The MSDSs have to be provided to ships carrying MARPOL Annex I cargoes, and to all vessels when receiving bunker deliveries.
